MEET THE TEAM: Art Director Sue Tong (series 1 to 3)
1. Describe Dave Spud in 3 words:
Grimsby Family Mayhem
2. What is your role on the series?
Art Director
3. What is the most ‘Spud’ thing to happen in your life?
On a family camping holiday in Scotland, a ferocious storm threatened to blow our tent away. We packed up in the wind and rain in the middle of the night and drove the 200 miles home soaking wet.
4. Have you worked on similar projects?
There is nothing quite like Dave Spud…
5. Where do you draw inspiration?
There are amazing colours and textures all around us – in nature and in urban settings. I’m always looking out for ideas.
6. You worked on Little Princess a pre-school and Dave Spud (6-11), what are the major differences between the age groups?
We have to spend more time explaining things in pre-school shows, to make sure our young audience understands. For older children we can tell stories at a faster pace, and we get to use the word ‘bum’.
7. Insiders scoop, something we should look out for in Dave Spud:
Betty’s knickers have an attractive ‘truck’ print on the fabric.
8. Have you always loved animation?
Since I was the twins’ age
9. Who is your favourite character and why?
Gran is my favourite because she’s old and gets away with being rude to everybody.
