MEET THE CAST: Arthur Smith as George

Can you tell us about this new animated comedy series?

Untitled-3.png

It is about a family - granted they may be potatoes - but a family just the same. They are chaotic but joyful.  It’s funny, original and it’s been a joy to be part of.

Why is this animation different to other children’s animations?

It has an ordinary family of spuds at its heart, and a dog.  They can survive in many environments, like under the sea.  BEAT THAT!

What can children expect from this new series?

Laughs, excitement and happy surprises!

Describe George?

George is the Dad potato.  He is caring and quite gentle but not always very well organised and usually skint. I wouldn’t say hapless, but he is a pleasant spud if ever there was one.

George is quite thrifty/economical – do you relate to that at all? Have you ever taken something from a skip?

I have bouts of thriftiness thrifty and I am right on for something interesting in a skip. I more or less lived in a skip for half a term at University.

George is keen to try self-sufficiency by having a cow and some chickens in the flat. Have you ever tried anything similar?

Once, I bought an enormous pumpkin and used it as a deckchair in the garden.

What is the most thrifty thing you do in real life?

I buy clothes from charity shops.

What is his relationship like with the rest of the family?

He is a pleasant, amenable Dad who does his best to give his kids a good life.

What children’s shows did you enjoy when growing up?

Rag, Tag and Bobtail was one and I always wanted to be one of the flowerpot men or to go to sea with Captain Pugwash.
